As Free Agency Begins, Padres Add AL East Relief Off Waivers

The San Diego Padres have bolstered their bullpen by claiming pitcher Logan Gillaspie off waivers.

Logan Gillaspie, a 26-year-old right-hander, was previously claimed by the Boston Red Sox in September after being waived by the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox sent Gillaspie to Triple-A for the remainder of the season, where he concluded his 2023 campaign.

Gillaspie appeared in 11 games for the Orioles in the past season, posting a 6.00 ERA over nine innings.

In his rookie season, the right-handed pitcher held a 3.12 ERA across 17.1 innings.

Baltimore signed Gillaspie as a minor league free agent before the 2021 season.

Gillaspie still has a minor league option remaining, providing the Padres with roster flexibility.

With numerous open spots on their 40-man roster, the Padres did not need to make a corresponding move for this acquisition.
