Cardinals say farewell to pair of running backs

After a four-week stint on the injured list, James Conner is back at practice for the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals made moves to accommodate Conner's return, releasing two running backs - Damien Williams and Tony Jones Jr.

Damien Williams, who was on the practice squad injured list, received an injury settlement and is now a free agent.

This marks the second consecutive year that Damien Williams, a former Super Bowl starter, has been released due to injury.

Tony Jones Jr. was waived by the team after joining the Cardinals as a waiver claim following his time with the New Orleans Saints.

Despite the release of Williams and Jones, running backs Emari Demercado and Keaontay Ingram remain on the Cardinals' roster.

The decision to let go of two running backs suggests that James Conner is likely to return soon after being sidelined due to a knee injury.

During his time with the Cardinals, Damien Williams played in three games, gaining 43 yards on 11 carries.

Tony Jones Jr., who joined the Cardinals after a stint with the Saints, had three carries during his brief time with the team.

While Conner's return is imminent, there are injury concerns for Emari Demercado, who missed Week 9 and is dealing with a toe injury.
