Foods That Can Last Past Their Expiration Date

1. Bread

Bread becomes typically stale after its expiration date, but it is still safe to consume.

If you want to extend the shelf life of your bread even further, refrigerate or freeze it. If you discover mildew, discard it.

2. Chocolate

Unopened chocolate is acceptable to consume for approximately two years if it remains unopened.

Once opened, it is acceptable to consume dark, milk, and white chocolate within one year of purchase.

3. Eggs

The USDA states that once you bring eggs home and store them in the refrigerator, they will last between three and five weeks.

During this period, the sell-by date will typically elapse, but the eggs will be perfectly safe to consume and use in recipes.
