Guardians hire former SF Giants coach to join Stephen Vogt's staff

Cleveland Guardians hire Craig Albernaz, former SF Giants bullpen and catching coach, as their major league field coordinator.

Albernaz was part of the Giants staff since 2020, working in various capacities and gaining recognition for his coaching skills.

While with the Giants, Albernaz transitioned from the bullpen to the dugout, becoming more involved in in-game decisions during the past season.

Albernaz interviewed with the Guardians during their search for a new manager, showcasing his potential impact on the team.

Although Stephen Vogt was selected as the top coach, the Guardians were impressed enough to bring Albernaz into the organization.

The Giants staff, including Albernaz, earned a strong reputation around the league, despite the departure of manager Gabe Kapler.

Albernaz started his baseball career as a player, signing with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2006, before transitioning to coaching after retiring.

Albernaz won the 2018 Midwest League Manager of the Year award and became one of Tampa Bay's field coordinators in 2019.

Known for his work with defensive catchers, Albernaz played a role in improving big-league catchers like Joey Bart and Blake Sabol.

The Guardians' decision to bring in Albernaz reflects their focus on coaching expertise and the potential impact on player development.
