Jaguars waive veteran RB despite offseason contract extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived running back JaMycal Hasty after extending his contract last offseason.

The team has filled the open roster spot by activating cornerback Gregory Junior from injured reserve.

Hasty began his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 after going undrafted from Baylor.

Despite primarily contributing on special teams, Hasty showed promise on offense, averaging 4.8 yards on 85 touches during his two years with the 49ers.

The Jaguars claimed Hasty off waivers in 2022, promoting him to Travis Etienne's primary backup after the James Robinson trade.

In the 2022 season, Hasty played in all 17 games, accumulating a career-high 320 yards from scrimmage and scoring three touchdowns.

The Jaguars extended Hasty's contract in February 2023 following his impressive performance.

However, Hasty has seen a reduced role in 2023, with rookie Tank Bigsby becoming the second-string running back.

Hasty has played in three games in 2023, with the majority of his snaps coming on special teams.

The Jaguars drafted cornerback Gregory Junior from Ouachita Baptist in the sixth round of the 2022 draft, and he returned from injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1 of the season.
